Technical Support for
Windows '95 TCP/IP Dialup Configuration.

If you have the PLUS! pack for Windows '95, click here
for additional information.
- Double click the My Computer Icon, and check for the dialup
networking icon. If you don't have a dialup networking icon, then dialup
networking needs to be installed:
- To install dialup networking, click the start button, settings,
and control panels.
- Double click the add/remove programs icon.
- Press the windows setup tab at the top of the active dialog
box.
- Click on communications, and press the details button,
check the dialup networking button and press OK.
- You will be taken through the necessary steps to install dialup networking,
one step being one that might throw you. For Windows '95 to install Dial-Up
Networking, it needs to assume that it will be 'pretending' to be on a
REAL network (such as a LAN). Windows '95 will ask you then for a Computer
Name, Workgroup Name and Computer Description. Since these values are practically
irrelevant, I would suggest putting your first name as the computer name,
you last name as the workgroup name, and any description you like. (Of
course you don't HAVE to use these, you can use your own). After you complete
the install, start with step #2.
- Double click the dialup networking icon, if running for the
first time, you will be taken to the dialup networking setup wizard, if
it isn't the first time you've run dialup networking, double click the
new connection icon.
- Name the new connection Fishbone, and press the next
button.
- The phone # is (541) 345-1129.
- Press the next button, then finish button, and the new Fishbone connection
will be created. Now you need to configure the connection that you just
created.
- Select the Fishbone icon and go to the File menu and go
to Properties.
- Press the Server type button in the lower right.
- Make sure that the connection type is PPP: Win 95, Win NT 3.5, Internet.
Under advanced options, make sure that log on to network and enable software
compression have a check by them and that require encrypted password does
not.
- Under allowed network protocols, TCP/IP should be the only protocol
checked. If the others are checked, uncheck them.
- Press the TCP/IP settings option, and make sure that Server
assigned IP address is selected. In the next section, click on Specify
Name Server Addresses and enter this number into the Primary DNS section:
206.101.70.2
Leave the Secondary DNS, Primary WINS, and Secondary WINS clear.
Verify that the check boxes at the bottom ARE checked then click OK.
- You will need to double click this Fishbone Dialup Network Icon
that you've just created and configured to start your Internet connection
in the future. But before you can do that, one more piece needs to be configured.
- You will need to configure your network control panel to make the Fishbone
dialup session compatible with Fishbone's network services. Start
by double clicking network icon in the control panel.
- First we need to check for a dialup adapter. If you do not have on
listed under the installed network components, one needs to be added. To
do this, follow the below steps:
- Click on the add button.
- Select the adapter under the component type and click the add
button.
- Scroll down to Microsoft under the Manufacturers list and select Microsoft.
- In the window to the right, select dialup adapter and click
the OK button then OK again.
- Input a computer name,workgroup name, and a description of the computer(these
can just be your first name and then the family name for the workgroup
as a suggestion. These aren't criticle unless you are on a Local Area Network.)
- Restart your computer.
Next, you will need to have the TCP/IP network protocol loaded, this
will show up under the dialup adapter. If the TCP/IP protocol isn't installed,
follow the steps below to add it.
- Press the Add button.
- Select protocol under the component type and click on the add
button.
- Scroll down and select Microsoft under the Manufacturer list.
- On the right portion of the screen, there will be a TCP/IP option.Double
click it, and TCP/IP will be added to your protocol stack.
Select the TCP/IP protocol by highlighting it, and press the
properties button.
Press the DNS Configuration tab:
- The host is Your Name.
- The domain is fishbone.com.
- In the DNS server search order, enter 206.101.70.2 then click
the add button.
- The domain suffix is fishbone.com.
Press the IP Address tab, and select to obtain IP automatically.
We are now finished configuring the TCP/IP protocol, press the OK
button.
Select the Dialup adapter and click on the Properties button.
Select the middle tab at the top labled bindings and be sure
that the only protocol checked is the TCP/IP protocol. If others are checked,
uncheck them.

computer. At this point do so to implement the recent changes.

and Dialup Networking, Double click Fishbone. Enter
your login ID and password, press the connect button.
