Technical Support for Personal Computer
- From the Windows Program Manager, select the File menu.
- Choose Run...
- Type x:\setup, where x is the letter of your floppy drive,
and press enter.
- The first bit of information the Setup is going to ask for is the directory
that you wish to install the files into. The default is C:\FCINET.
- Then the program will go through the process of copying the files.
- Next you will be shown a large list of modems. If your modem is on
this list, select it an hit OK. If it is not, for now choose 'Generic'
at the bottom of the list.
- The next window will ask you for your e-mail address. For example,
my login name is peakster so I would put peakster@fci.net in this window.
- Then your real name and hit Done.
- The COM port selection is next. Here you just select what COM port
your modem is on. Default is COM 2.
- Then select your modem speed.
- The next window has two check boxes in it incase you have call waiting
or need to dial a 9 for an outside line. If you have either of these, select
them by checking the boxes.
- Finally, the group will be created and the icons will be shown.. And
this little document will be brought up.
Once you've installed the software, there are just a few more pieces
of information which you need to provide to the software. Double-click
the icon in the fciNet group labeled TCP NetDialler. Your
modem will dial in and connect to FCI in the background. Don't
worry, this is standard the first time you are logging in. As you follow
these steps, you will be entering your username and password into TCP
NetDialler which will log you in.. You will not be logged in until
you finish the steps outlined below:
- Choose the File menu.
- Choose PPP options.
- In the Username box, type your username, from the FCI
registration sheet.
Remember that the username must be in all lowercase.
- In the Password box, type your password, from the FCI
registration sheet. For security reasons, you will not see your password
as you type it.
Remember that the password is case sensitive so capitals do count!
- Click OK.
- Choose the Dialler menu and select Manual Login then
press the 'ESC'cape button. You will see a message saying "Accepted:
Login succeeded." You are now connected. I suggest that you minimize
TCP NetDialler by clicking the down arrow in the upper right corner
of the window.
DO NOT CLOSE THE WINDOW OR IT WILL LOG YOU OFF.
That was the hard part! It's time now for your exploring to begin. In
the future when you wish to log on, simply open the TCP NetDialler
and it will automatically login for you.
